Job Description

Our client, a hugely successful multinational law firm, is looking to recruit a Resource Manager to join their Banking and Finance team on a permanent basis. This firm has a very strong brand, and places huge emphasis on its staff, in addition to committed to delivering the highest quality work for their clients.

Reporting into the Divisional Practice Manager, key duties will include:

  • Lead and facilitate transaction related performance feedback with Partners and Associates
  • Optimise the allocation of work and the deployment of staff based on projected workflows, utilisation and skills
  • Proactive management of the current work allocation tools, ensuring they are maintained and accurate
  • Act as an 'early warning sign' for potential Associate issues around engagement or performance - escalating these to the Divisional Practice Manager
  • Ensure matters are appropriately staffed in an efficient manner through effective allocation of work from Trainee through to Partner level
  • Monitor current and anticipated activity levels, capacity and matter staffing; and help smooth utilisation levels.
  • Work with Associates to help ensure work is aligned to individual Associate development needs and interests where possible.
  • Maintain clear, effective lines of communication, keeping all stakeholders informed on initiatives, developments, business issues, and other critical topics.
  • Assist with Recruitment initiatives as and when required.
  • Oversee analysis of business forecasting e.g. chargeable hours, utilisation, and proactively drive resourcing decisions
  • Provide weekly reporting to the Divisional Practice Manager on forecasted activity
  • Act as a first line defence on ensuring fee earners are following the firm Time recording policy
  • Understand and maintain knowledge of individual skills, development needs, experiences and personal / professional aspirations and apply this knowledge in resourcing decisions
  • Provide forecast and actual utilisation and availability reports and other management information, as required
  • Monitor chargeable hours by individual / grade / office and highlight potential shortfalls / over-utilisation to the practice group and business management
  • Active chasing of fee earner missing time daily and escalating as and when necessary to PGL and Fee Earners
  • Ensure under-utilized resources are flagged as available for resourcing
  • Highlighting issues at both Partner and Fee Earner levels that may be impacting the allocation of resources

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in work allocation or resource management, ideally within a large professional services or corporate environment preferably Banking. You must be a strong team player who has strong commercial and business awareness. You will be a natural networker who is highly skilled at building relationships with internal stakeholders and third-party management, and a confident and concise communicator. You have well-developed commercial acumen, with the ability to understand the wider impacts of decision making. The ability to challenge and influence constructively, combined with high levels of resilience, will be essential. You must be able to manage a high-volume workload and be a self-starter with a high level of professionalism and personal accountability.
