Job Description

Our client, a prestigious UK law firm, currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Revenue Control Manager to join the firm on a permanent basis. The Revenue Control Manager will be responsible for managing the firm's credit control, WIP management and billing functions.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop direct reports to ensure that all team objectives, billing deadlines and collection targets are achieved.
  • Help to manage and reduce the firm's lock up to agreed levels.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across the business.
  • Act as the point of escalation for all credit control, WIP management and billing issues and when required ensure that issues are escalated upwards in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal controls, policies and HMRC/SRA rules.
  • Oversee the finance mailbox to ensure that all requests are being responded to and completed within agreed timescales.
  • Continually appraise existing systems and processes and lead on any change initiatives required.
  • Play an active role in the firm's practice management system replacement project.
  • Organise cover for direct reports when required.

Credit control:

  • Play a key role in ensuring the firm is achieving its cash targets by managing and supporting the credit controllers.
  • Monitor and manage credit levels and follow up with clients, partners and other fee earners on outstanding invoices.
  • Attend meetings with partners, internal management, clients and the debt collection team.
  • Ensure that invoices and statements are sent to clients in a timely manner.

WIP management:

  • Play a key role in ensuring the firm is controlling its WIP and disbursements exposure by managing and supporting the revenue assistants.
  • Attend monthly/quarterly WIP review meetings with partners and associates.
  • Ensure that all time and disbursement transfers and write-offs are performed in timely manner.
  • Monitor missing timesheets and incorrect time recording behaviour and ensure that missing timesheets are promptly followed up.
  • Produce and circulate weekly utilisation reports.

Billing:

  • Play a key role in ensuring the firm is successfully meeting all billing deadlines by managing and supporting the invoicing clerks.
  • Ensure invoices are being addressed and processed correctly (including compliance with HMRC and SRA rules) and be the first point of contact to resolve any invoice processing queries from the team.
  • Manage the list of ebilling clients and ensure the timely submission of invoices through the relevant ebilling portals.
  • Take ownership of the monthly billing schedules for a few key clients

Additional Duties:

  • Provide cover for other members of the department as and when required.
  • Assist with billing during peak periods of the month.
  • Ad-hoc reports and analysis as and when required.
  • Any other duties defined by management from time to time

Previous revenue control and legal billing experience is required. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written are essential and the successful candidate must have the ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and meet stringent deadlines. Knowledge of CMS Aderant or Elite 3E/ Enterprise would be a distinct advantage. Attention to detail, flexibility to work overtime and the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines is a must in this busy role. Strong word processing, database and spreadsheet software skills are required.
