Job Description

Exciting opportunity for a Staff Accountant to join a leading US law firm on a permanent basis. The purpose of the role is to support the Accounting Department in the US and the Directors of Administration within the European offices. This is a broad role encompassing a full spread of accounting, payables, billing, and related operations work in a proactive, business-focused, and flexible way.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable processing, follow-up, and reporting. Billing review and follow-up. This includes checking accuracy of incoming and outgoing invoices, correct general ledger use, and ensuring the Firm complies with the Firm's procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Reporting of daily bank transactions.
  • Expense reimbursement review and follow-up (via Chrome River).
  • Collection of data for monthly VAT reporting and coordination of filings with internal tax team and external consultant.
  • Prepare the annual VAT listing.
  • Prepare and provide various listings, surveys, and reporting.
  • Assist with data collection for tax filings and reporting as required.
  • Prepare and maintain the accounting reports for the Brussels payroll working in conjunction with the Payroll Manager and office management.
  • Maintain and update records and files which may be of a complex and confidential nature.
  • Assist with the annual budget preparation and maintain courteous and professional relationship with the external accountants and the bank.

The ideal candidate for the Staff Accountant role will have prior accounting experience within a law firm or professional services environment. You will have a thorough knowledge of the Solicitors Accounts Rules, EU VAT regulations and the rules regarding VAT for lawyers. You must be a team player who is solution focussed and accurate, as well as an excellent communicator and confident in liaising with people of all levels, including partners. You must have an understanding and appreciation of confidentiality. You must have an enthusiastic and proactive approach, common sense, and the ability to build strong relationships.
